Western Australia has launched a five-year plan to attract more high-value national and international business events. The launch comes as Business Events Perth reports nearly A$395 million in delegate spend secured for the state through to 2030.

Tourism Western Australia and Business Events Perth developed the Western Australian Business Events Strategy 2026–2030 together. It sets out how the state will grow the sector and its tourism and economic return over the next five years.

The strategy has two goals, Attract and Win and Maximise Visitation, and five pillars: WA Awareness, Event Prioritisation, Optimise Venues, Enhance Events and Industry Capability.

In practice, that means going after flagship events linked to WA’s priority sectors. It also means strengthening international relationships and marketing, supporting aviation connectivity and building partnerships across government, industry and academia. A central aim is getting delegates to stay longer and travel beyond Perth into regional WA.

The strategy aligns with the state’s wider Western Australia Visitor Economy Strategy (WAVES) 2033.

The numbers behind it

Business Events Perth secured hundreds of national and international business events during the 2025–26 financial year. They are scheduled to take place in WA through to 2030 and are expected to generate A$394.9 million in direct delegate expenditure and more than 320,000 hotel room nights.

Tourism Research Australia valued total business events spend in Western Australia at more than A$1.71 billion in 2025.

Premier and Minister for Tourism, Trade and Investment Roger Cook said: “Western Australia has the industries, expertise and experiences to be a strong competitor for high-value business events.”

Business Events Perth chair Bradley Woods AM said: “This Strategy provides a clear framework for government and industry to strengthen Western Australia’s position in the global business events market and maximise the value these events deliver for the State.”
