Worker dies in fall at convention centre

A worker has died after falling about 25 metres at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Australia.

The Queensland Ambulance Service said the incident happened at the Broadbeach complex on Thursday morning.

According to police the man, aged 29, was in the roof cavity cleaning out air conditioning ducts when he fell.

He died at the scene.

Senior Sergeant Angelique Maloney said the man was working for a local abseiling firm.

“He had safety harnesses and full abseiling gear — he was quite experienced with abseiling and he’s been doing that for quite some time,” she said.

Workplace Health and Safety officers are investigating.
