World Environment Day: From meal times to motorways at Maritim

International hotel chain Maritim is supporting World Environment Day, 5 June, by turning mealtimes into motorways.

Germany’s largest owner-managed hotel group’s sustainability policy includes compulsory waste separation in all its hotels.

Around 4,000 tons of waste is generated each year across the group and management says the recyclables are almost completely returned to the economic cycle, creating new energy, fuel or fertiliser from waste – broken crockery, for example, is re-used in road construction.

LeRoy Sheppard, ‎director of ales UK & Ireland at Maritim UK, comments: “World Environment Day is a key event to remind us of the need to be responsible with the planet’s natural resources, to preserve and protect it for future generations. A commitment to the environment is important for our guests and it’s important for us. We constantly strive to find innovative ways to minimise our carbon footprint and be environmentally friendly.

“Maritim is Germany’s only hotel company to have a trained sustainability consultant at each hotel. The training is delivered by our partners at the German Convention Bureau as part of their sustainability code for the entire German event industry.”

Maritim Hotels’ ‘Green Meeting’ package is available at €70 per delegate.
