The 2016 Democratic National Convention Committee has joined forces with the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB) and the Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board (VFTCB) to accommodate more than 35,000 expected participants.
The primary aims of the convention is to nominate and confirm a candidate for president and vice-president, organise a party platform and unify the party as a group. Political analysts say Hilary Clinton is front runner for the nomination as the Democratic Party presidential candidate.
The Democratic Convention expects to utilise more than 15,000 hotel rooms during the convention week in July 2016. The DNCC expanded its footprint and collaborated with the PHLCVB and VFTCB in order to address the need for additional hotels and facilities.
Rev Lead D Daughtry, CEO for the DNCC, said: “Part of the reason the Democratic National Convention selected Philadelphia as our host city is because it has a great infrastructure. The Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board are an instrumental part of that infrastructure. Together they provide hotel rooms, facilities and resources in a variety of locations that will help delegates and other participants navigate greater Philadelphia and maximise their convention experience.”
VFTCB president and CEO, Mike Bowman, said: “We certainly value this exciting opportunity to partner with the Democratic National Convention Committee through our relationship with the PHLCVB.”
Earlier this year CMW reported that Philadelphia was announced as the host city on 12 February 2015, after beating New York to the bid. Laura Santucci, head of New York’s convention bid, left her job following the unsuccessful bid.
