Florence’s Fortezza de Basso venue is expecting 4,000 delegates when it hosts the 2016 World Union of Wound Healing Societies (WUWHS) Congress, 25-29 September.

The congress will involve 10 simultaneous sessions, 4,000sqm of exhibition space, 93 sponsors and 350 speakers.

The bid for the congress was submitted back in 2012 by the PCO International Congress Centre of Turin (CCI), with the support of the Florence Convention and Visitors Bureau (FCVB), Tecnoconference-TC Group and Firenze Fiera, the company that manages the Congress Citadel of Florence. That collaboration should result in an economic impact of more than €3m.

The FCVB provided the free rental of the Palazzo Medici Riccardi venue for the dinner of ambassadors coming from all over the world.

The bureau also helped activate the florencecongressbooking.com portal to support the management of individual hotel reservations worth €1m.

Germana Garrone, CEO of CCI said she was pleased with the results and noted the booking portal had sold over 5,500 room nights.

The association of SIRTES (International School of Tissue Repair) has set up a partnership with Oxfam Italia that will see delegate volunteers take part in a marathon to raise funds to support some of those hit by the earthquake on 24 August.
