Malaysia’s PCEB looks to build on solid results of its 2022 Annual Review

Malaysia’s Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) launched its Annual Review for the year 2022 at The George Hotel, Penang in the presence of the chief minister of Penang, The Right Honourable Chow Kon Yeow and state exco for tourism and creative economy, The Honourable Yeoh Soon Hin. “I am proud to share that the state government, together with PCEB, hosted a total of 281 events for 2022, achieving RM375m (US$84.8m),” the chief minister said, addressing the opening ceremony. “For the year 2022, there were a total of 57,812 business travellers who stayed a total of 181,066 hotel nights,” added Ashwin Gunasekeran, the CEO of PCEB. Highlights of PCEB’s performance in 2022, he said, included: 1. BElong in Penang Campaign. 2. Northern AV Show 2022, the first high-end audio-visual exhibition in the northern region. 3. MoU signings with Malaysia Robotics and Automation Society (MyRAS) and the Network of Indian Mice Agents (NIMA). 4. 9th V-Convention Malaysia 2022. 5. India Preliminary Trip 2022. 6. Penang International Travel Exchange (PITE) 2022 and BE @ Penang 2022 in person. The business events industry also facilitates knowledge exchange and innovation and the chief minister added that the state government would continue to focus on recovery efforts for sectors affected by the pandemic. “Our focus also remains consistent on transforming and developing Seberang Perai [city in Penang] as a destination that offers quality life to all its residents, covering economic aspects, human capital, infrastructure, and tourism,” he said. PCEB has plans to bring high-value and high-impact events into Penang while enhancing the existing event support packages to entice the international market. PCEB says it is also dedicated to promoting sustainability and social responsibility in event planning and execution and positioning Penang as a premier, sustainable, diversified, and smart business events destination.
