Global PCO and event management company MCI’s business unit operating in Copenhagen, Gothenburg and Stockholm has announced the acquisition of Initiativ, a full-service corporate events agency based in Sweden.
New managing director, and former ops director of MCI Nordics, Trine Steffensen (pictured), said: “We are excited to welcome Initiativ to our growing team; this acquisition confirms our company’s leading position within the local MICE market and is directly associated with our vision of expanding and strengthening our presence in the Nordics as we are aiming at doubling the size of our local operations by 2020.” Steffensen replaces Thomas Wüthrich who will be taking over the role of managing director of MCI Germany.
“We are incredibly proud and very happy to be part of MCI, one of Europe’s largest congress and event organisers, and to have access to their global network,” said former owners of Initiativ Jonas Jonsson and Claes Johan Larsson. They will continue as director of corporate events and account director, respectively, at MCI Nordics.
The latest acquisition follows MCI Nordic’s June 2016 purchase of Danish business ICS.
One notable milestone in 2016 for the Scandinavian MCI operation was the accommodation coordination for more than 13,000 people across 17 hotels for the 2016 Eurovision song contest held in May in Stockholm.
