In a week that has seen up to a thousand in-person delegates attend the first large-scale event in Singapore, GeoConnect Asia, some delegates may be tempted to check out the new Through the Lens of Time exhibition, at Singapore Discovery Centre (SDC). It is a new attraction that describes the beginnings of Singapore and her journey to nationhood in an immersive way. Creative agency Pico worked with the SDC on the design of the gallery, using a storytelling approach to sum up Singapore history in an engaging and educational manner. The challenge was to translate 700 years of history into a simple, immersive, experiential journey, weaving the story components into a curated multimedia show. A 3D stereoscopic film ‘teleports’ visitors into a bunker during World War II and there are three ‘On-Location Reporter’ green screen studios where visitors can take the mic and step into the role of a reporter by selecting one of 22 curated stories from a touchscreen. Following a script scrolling on the teleprompter, they can report on and discover new facts about key moments in Singapore’s development, such as ‘The First Currency in Singapore’, ‘Launch of National Service’, ‘Jurong Rock Caverns’ and ‘Food Sustainability’. Visitors can play back their experience and send the video to themselves via email, and subsequently share it on social media. Check out the Gallery at https://www.sdc.com.sg/things-to-do/exhibits
