St Petersburg in Russia has won the bid to host the World Congress of The World Association of Chefs’ Societies. Russia’s ‘Venice of the North’ beat off strong competition from finalists Lyon and Sydney. The three cities made it to the final from a total of 12 bids.
It will be the first time that Russia has hosted the Worldchefs Congress.
A large Australian delegation of nearly 40 delegates had been at this year’s congress in Thessaloniki, Greece, 24-27 September, to help make the final case for picking Sydney as the Worldchefs Congress 2020, but they came back disappointed after St Petersburg won the vote.
St Petersburg’s presentation included tasting Russian pancakes with various fillings, promotional stand construction and a video about the city.
The Worldchefs Congress 2018 will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
