TCEB strengthens presence in China and offers targeted promotions

The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), 17 September, hosted a commemorative dinner as part of its drive to bolster confidence in Thailand as a business events destination to stakeholders from China, the kingdom’s No.1 source market.

The ‘Thailand CONNECT The World: China MICE Commemorative Dinner 2015’ event also marked the 40-year anniversary of Thai-Chinese relations. Trade between the two nations now exceeds US$63bn annually.

Around 120,000 Chinese business travellers used Thai MICE facilities in 2014.

The dinner was part of Thailand’s MICE United II strategic campaign with collaboration from nine public and private organisations designed to reinvigorate Thailand’s image and position the country as an ASEAN gateway destination.

Ms Parichat Svetasreni, director of marketing at TCEB, also announced a new promotion from TCEB in collaboration with the Ratchaprasong Square Trade Association to Chinese business events stakeholders. These packages, she said, would include special hotel and retail discounts in the heart of Bangkok.

In the fiscal year 2014 919,164 business events visitors came to Thailand, generating revenue of 80,800 million baht (US$2.69bn). Parichat added that, in the first three quarters from last October until June this year, a total of 726,280 high quality business events have already made Thailand their choice of destination for MICE related events.

Asia provides the largest share of business visitors to Thailand, and in 2014, China led the way with its business events delegations injecting over US$300m into the Thai economy.

In addition, a skywalk system connecting the city’s rapid transportation network with Ratchaprasong’s many shopping complexes is to be extended in the interest of making the area walkable and therefore more accessible.

Infinitus China broke new ground by sending over 12,000 of its employees on a six-day incentives trip in Bangkok and Pattaya in May, and intends to send up to 20,000 employees next year.

Perfect (China) Marie Anne Tour to Thailand hosted nearly 5,500 guests from China at the Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Hall (PEACH) in April, while Beijing UFC held a five-day event for 300 people in Phuket in July.

In August, Thailand welcomed 700 delegates sent by Mary Kay Cosmetics and 400 delegates sent by Amway China.

Other big events for 2015 include HerbaLife Asia-Pacific Extravaganza (20,000 delegates), FDI Annual World Dental Congress 2015 (15,000 delegates), One Young World Summit 2015 (2,000 delegates), 46th World Congress of Surgery 2015 (2,000 delegates), TBEX Asia (900 delegates), and four exhibitions from Messe Dusseldorf Asia (total 14,300 delegates).
