WORLD – The World Forum and the THIMUN Foundation have signed a five-year contract to continue to run the THIMUN international conference (The Hague International Model United Nations) in the Netherlands capital.
The annual conference, which attracts 3,300 participants, will be held again in the World Forum in The Hague from 2016 to 2020. The venue has hosted the THIMUN conference for the past 25 years.
The World Forum Theatre was also the setting for the signing of the new deal.
‘Sustainable Urbanisation’ is the theme of the 48th edition that opens at the World Forum in January 2016.
That edition of the conference will mean between 12,000 and 14,000 hotel nights for the city.
“This annual event in January is also a fantastic start to the year for the taxis, shops and restaurants in The Hague. That’s why we are enormously proud to host this conference again,” said Michiel Middendorf, general manager of the World Forum.
“A large number of UN organs are located in The Hague, clearly linking with the theme of the THIMUN conference. We have always enjoyed a fantastic working relationship with the World Forum and our collaboration with them goes back a long way,’ said Irene Crepin, MD of the THIMUN Foundation.
THIMUN participants are all aged between 15 and 18 years and these future ‘world leaders’come from over 100 countries.
