Coming off the back of the most successful year in terms of capturing international business events, Dubai is building on strong momentum and providing platforms for associations to grow, and for all meeting planners to embrace sustainability. In 2023, Dubai Business Events, the city’s official convention bureau, led successful bids for 349 international conferences, congresses, meetings, and incentive travel programmes, which will take place over the coming years. The achievement underscored Dubai’s global standing, having been crowned the top meeting destination in the Middle East by both Cvent and the World Travel Awards last year. Successful bidding from previous years is already being reflected in this year’s calendar; nearly every month of 2024 will witness the convergence of global leaders, industry experts, and visionaries at major association conferences and congresses, strengthening Dubai’s position as a bustling hub of knowledge exchange, innovation and collaboration.

BUILDING ON LEGACIES

Dubai’s continued growth as a business events hub follows on from the success of COP28, which also reflected the city and wider country’s commitment to sustainability and achieving its Net Zero by 2050 goal. Impactful initiatives are shaping the city’s events infrastructure to be more sustainable: from eco-conscious hotels and venues powered by renewable energy to city-wide recycling initiatives. Sustainability also underpins the visionary Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, which aims to double the city’s GDP and propel it to a top-four global hub over the next decade. The forthcoming Dubai Association Centre Conference, 27 – 28 February, will showcase the city’s focus on innovation, sustainability and economic growth while also providing a powerful platform for sector leaders and experts from around the world to come together. Taking place under the theme ‘Value Amplified: Associations Empowering Change,’ the conference is set to consolidate the pivotal role associations play in serving their members and as agents of positive societal change. Associations are not just using Dubai as a meetings venue, but also establishing their headquarters in the city, through the Dubai Association Centre. Dubai’s world-class infrastructure, strategic location, and attractive tax regime are undeniable draws. A progressive regulatory environment, pro-business governance, and a thriving talent pool have further solidified Dubai’s position as a global hub for associations. In 2024, Dubai’s growing association community is expected to thrive even further on the back of several marquee events, and the city’s powerful blend of innovation, knowledge sharing, and sustainability. Some of 2024’s most notable association events include Critical Communications World, WCA Worldwide Annual Conference, International Congress of Endocrinology, IATA AGM, and the World Congress of Sports Medicine. As the industry makes its way through a busy year, Dubai is ready to welcome the world to its global events and empower associations to amplify their impact, sparking enhanced collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to a better future.
